TRAMA: Nascosta in qualche posto negli insidiosi recessi delle grandi montagne Lassair, si trova una caverna silenziosa e profonda sotto la superficie terrestre. Secondo il racconto di un uomo che è morto, le sue pareti ed il soffitto sono ricoperti d’oro puro e intatto, una manciata di uomini conosce questo posto con il nome “Mother Lode”, leggendaria sorgente di una rinnovata corsa all’ oro. Ambientato in Canada, il film vede il pilota Jean Dupré ( Nick Mancuso ) partire con l’amica Andrea (Kim Basinger) alla ricerca di George Patterson, un collega precipitato col suo idroplano. I due giungono alla capanna di un minatore, Silas McGee (Charlton Heston) il quale da 29 anni si accanisce a cercare un misterioso filone d’oro assieme al fratello Jan McGee. Silas cercherà di eliminare in tutti i modi i due intrusi, come del resto ha già fatto con Patterson. Andrea e Jean saranno aiutati da Jan e troveranno l’ oro

PAROLA MIA: Sicuramente non passerà alla storia come il miglior film di Kim, ma i paesaggi sono davvero belli e anche le scene d'azione sono molto interessanti, il film si lascia guardare piacevolmente, ma rimane comunque un film non di alto livello. Peccato perchè Kim è veramente bella e giovanissima.

The Beaver floatplane used in the movie was not intended to be crashed, nor was a crash part of the original storyline. The pilot attempted a "glassy water landing", wherein the glass-like surface can lead pilots into misjudging relative height and rate of descent during landing.
The scene is regarded by many fans to be the highlight of the film.
The bagpipe music Jean and Andrea chase through the forest is "Inverness Gathering", a traditional Scottish piece.
